Information Emergy: What were Odum’s Intentions? - 6/10/22

  • Back in 2022, I was working on two big papers (plus a third). I was hoping that somehow the two could both get into a good journal. I was aiming for the International Journal of General Systems, since I had luck there before. Maybe as a Part 1 and Part 2.

  • Mark Brown was doing some online webinars, and I volunteered to do one. I didn’t say at the time that I had two in mind, nor that they would be long webinars (sorry Mark). My intention was that when/if these two long papers got published, there would be webinars that people could watch if they wanted some help understanding them.

  • I gave this presentation first because I thought it would be the most practical for emergy researchers. It is the longer, almost 2 hours long. The second paper is more theoretical, about Odum’s understanding of information. As it turned out, I could not get this long first paper published as a whole. The original logic of the paper was, first, to begin with a historical review of Odum’s approaches to using emergy to evaluate information (the 2023 paper), and then, second, my own empirical case study, applying what I had discovered to an emergy information analysis (the first 2024 paper). Which was in the form of a parallel cycles analysis (the second 2024 paper). So, in fact, the presentation references these three papers. I hope it can demonstrate their interconnectedness, and also aid listeners/readers with comprehension:

Building With/On Odum’s Information Theory - 6/17/22

  • I am very fortunate that this paper was published in complete form in the International Journal of General Systems. This is another long video, about one hour and 45 minutes. Again, it should aid any readers of the paper.

Prosperous Way Down Workshop Introduction - 6/14/23

  • This is my introduction to an online PWD workshop.
